Checklist for keeping participants' interest
- Factors and approaches that enhance patient interest and
participation
- Treat patients with courtesy and dignity
- Keep them informed on the objectives/progress of the trial
(personal
interviews, information leaflets, Web page dedicated to consumers, etc.)
- Involve other relatives or friends (especial
interviews/information
leaflets with specific information for relatives)
- Plan a timeline for locating and contacting patients, with
actions
to be conducted at each period of time (birthday cards, phone calls,
home
visits, reminders, e-mails, etc.)
- Avoid hospital barriers (especial office/clinic schedules
minimising
waiting time, personnel dedicated to the trial, home visits, etc.)
- Consider other possible barriers (transport costs, work
schedules,
school, housekeeping activities, etc.)
- Ensure a proper transfer of patient care to alternate
clinic/hospitals
when appropriate (referral to high risk units or specialised clinics
when
a particular condition requiring special care is detected)
- Be creative! (you may know many other activities that are not
listed
here)
